Membership Overview

The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) is the only national organization solely dedicated to improving football coaches through ongoing education, interaction, and networking. Its primary goal is to provide resources for personal and professional development amongst the football coaching profession.

The AFCA membership includes over 11,000 members and represents coaches and several stakeholders within the game of football. Any college, high school, junior college, international, semi-professional or professional football coach is eligible to become a member of the AFCA.

Founded in December of 1921 by 43 coaches in a meeting at the Hotel Astor in New York City, the AFCA has continued to the push the envelope in regard to the growth of the profession. The AFCA strives to “maintain the highest possible standards in football and the profession of coaching football,” as well as to “provide a forum for the discussion and study of all matters pertaining to football and coaching.”

Mission Statement

The mission of the AFCA is to maintain the highest possible standards in football and the profession of coaching football; to provide a forum for the discussion and study of all matters pertaining to football and coaching; to make the game as safe and entertaining as possible through the rules of play; to have a strong voice in intercollegiate legislation affecting football programs; to exchange freely information on coaching methods and techniques, and to promote good fellowship and social contacts within the Association.

Cost of Membership

Annual membership dues are broken down into categories based on coaching level/position:

  • FBS Head Coaches – $400
  • FBS Assistant Coaches/Graduate Assistants/Others – $175
  • FCS, DII, DIII, or NAIA Head Coaches – $175
  • Pro, CFL, Arena, Pro Scouts – $175
  • FCS, DII, DIII, NAIA Assistant Coaches – $125
  • JUCO and High School Coaches – $125
  • Not currently coaching this season – $125-$300
  • International – $125
